School Committee Subcommittees Subcommittees are legal entities set up to address specific ongoing areas of importance to the School Committee. They meet regularly, abide by the Open Meeting Law, post meeting agendas, and record minutes. The School Committee creates a charge in its policies for these subcommittees and appoints two members to work through specific topics with the Administration and/or other relevant parties, who act as advisors to the subcommittee, to make recommendations for the full committee to discuss and potentially adopt. |

CPS Collective Bargaining/Union Negotiation Team Subcommittees As contracts are scheduled to be renewed, work with the district negotiating team (Superintendent, School Business Manager and CPS Attorney), which makes up an advisory committee that works to develop a strategy for negotiations and participate in negotiation sessions with the union. School Committee representative(s) oversees Collective Bargaining negotiation sessions. They, and the entire bargaining team, are directed by the School Committee, and report developments to the School Committee to discuss and then provide guidance back to the Bargaining Team to execute. |

School Committee/Canton Public Schools Advisory Committees The function of an ad-hoc advisory committee or task force is to accomplish one-time specific tasks, often on a short-term basis not easily provided for elsewhere in the committee system. They meet regularly, abide by the Open Meeting Law, post meeting agendas, and record minutes. Each task force has a particular goal to achieve or product to provide to the School Committee; when its task is completed, the committee is dismissed. The School Committee assigns representatives to these groups who may be members of the public and/or may direct the Superintendent to assign and oversee. They report recommendations to the School Committee. As an alternative to a task force, the school committee may assign tasks to one of its members, In this case, the individual does not need to abide by Open Meeting Law, but performs the task outlined by the School Committee, regularly reporting in to provide updates, and receive guidance and/or approval. |
