School Committee Biographies

Kristin Mirliani is an attorney practicing in the field of Estate Planning. Kristin earned her law degree from Boston University School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts Degree, magna cum laude, from St. Lawrence University with a major in both Economics and Government. She is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts and New York.Kristin was raised in northern New York and attended public school. In 2004, Kristin relocated to Canton with her husband and children, primarily choosing Canton based upon the existing school system. Her oldest child is a 2018 graduate of the Canton Public Schools and is currently attending Tufts University.  Her other  two children are currently students at Canton High School.

Kristin has an extensive history of volunteerism on behalf of the children, the Town of Canton and the Canton Public Schools, including: past president of the JFK CAPT; past co-chair of the JFK and GMS School Council; past president of CAPE; and classroom assistance for over 10 years in the elementary and middle school levels. Additionally, in 2009, Kristin was elected to the Canton Planning Board where she served for 5 years. Kristin also enjoyed coaching youth soccer and was a member of the Executive Board of Canton Youth Soccer.

Nichola Gallagher has spent the last 15 years working in the finance industry, with 12 of those at State Street Corporation in Boston. Her diversified background includes work in Accounting, Business Analytics, Project Management, Program Management (PMO) and Process Development. Most recently she has shifted responsibilities to also include Data Stewardship for the Financial Planning and Analysis division of the bank. She holds a BA from Colby College in Waterville, Maine. Nichola moved to Canton with her family in 2012. She participates in Girl Scouts and coaching girls’ soccer both for in-town, and a travel league. In 2014 she was appointed to serve on the Canton Town Finance Committee. Nichola is the mother of two children in the Canton school system, and is excited for this new chapter serving on the School Committee.

Kristian Merenda is an expert in organizational leadership and marketing strategy who has advised a wide range of world-class organizations in their efforts to drive mutually-beneficial transformation for business and society.  Merenda helped found the award-winning, global Business + Social Purpose consulting practice at Edelman, the world’s largest public relations firm; where she works today as Senior Vice President, Global Corporate Social Responsibility Lead and Public Affairs Advisor. She has been at the helm of some of the most iconic social impact initiatives launched in the past three decades, generating financial returns exceeding $900M for her clients and directing more than $1B in assets toward significant social interventions. Four of her most highly-acclaimed social purpose programs, American Heart Associations’ Go Red for Women, Microsoft Unlimited Potential, PNC Grow Up Great and Western Union’s Our World Our Family, have been published as case studies by Harvard Business School and the United Nations. Merenda is concurrently a member of the marketing faculty at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business, where she has served as an elected Union Steward for BU Faculty Forward/SEIU Local 509. And, she is a member of the management faculty at Harvard Extension School, where she teaches courses in the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Certificate and Nonprofit Leadership Programs.

Merenda has been actively engaged in the community since she moved to Canton in 2009 with her husband, Justin who is a Norwood High School physical education teacher. In that time, she has served as a volunteer coach on several town sports leagues; a project leader on the Luce CAPT and School Council; as a CCD teacher at St. Gerard’s Church and St. John the Evangelist Church; a program planner for the Ponkapoag Civic; as an event organizer as part of the Moms Club, etc. Most recently, she played a leading role in helping secure CCPA and broad stakeholder approval to install a pair of embankment slides at the Luce School in fulfillment of the school’s 10+ year vision For more information on Merenda’s background, visit:


Maureen Moran  is an experienced communications professional, with a background in corporate communications, health care and journalism. Maureen received a bachelor’s degree in English from Holy Cross and a master’s degree from the Columbia University School of Journalism.

The parent of a Galvin Middle School student, Maureen has volunteered in the district since her daughter entered the Rodman Early Education program, where she joined with other parents to organize volunteers to support classroom activities. During her daughter’s six years at the Luce, Maureen was a member of the Luce CAPT, spending two years as its secretary. She launched and organized the school’s yearly “Breakfast with Someone Special” and “Celebrate Spring with Someone Special” events.  She also served as a room parent, established the Luce Little Free Library, coached the school’s award-winning CAPE spelling bee teams, and served as a co-coordinator of the grade 5 promotion activities in 2018-2019.

Prior to being elected to the School Committee in 2019, Maureen regularly attended School Committee meetings, and in 2016, served on the superintendent search committee. A Canton High graduate, Maureen and her husband moved back to Canton in 2005. In addition to her district volunteer work, Maureen is a Girl Scout troop leader, and a long-term volunteer with the Holy Cross Alumni Association, serving as its president in 2012-2013.
