Dear CPS Families and Staff,

As I communicated to all of you with a Press Release yesterday, Governor Baker announced that schools are to remain closed through May 4. Following this announcement, Commissioner Riley shared a letter with superintendents outlining recommendations for remote learning while schools are closed. A parent letter from the Commissioner is coming soon. Commissioner Riley’s recommendations outline much of what we are currently doing and may inform our work moving forward, after April 6.

The Governor’s announcement generated a flood of new questions, understandably so. The general answer for most of the questions relates to our current actions and staff agreements through April 6. We are reflecting on the current learning experiences for students and families, and we will be revisiting current agreements with staff and the plans developed for the first phase of school closures. It is important for everyone to understand that we will continue with the current model of connecting with students and families, sharing learning opportunities and supporting students’ well-being as communicated. Overall, the feedback has been very positive and staff are doing a great job! I will inform you whenever there are CPS updates and/or new information is available.

I have participated on numerous conference calls, reviewed draft documents and communicated with many other superintendents about their districts’ plans. I am honored to say that as a result of the work of CPS staff across all roles - classroom teachers, specialists, special educators and educators of all student services, support staff, custodians, administrative assistants, business office staff, building and district administrators, and others - we should be very proud of our school district and our partnerships with families, students and the Town of Canton!

You’ve heard it before, we’re all in this together, and I am deeply grateful to be a part of this work with all of you. More to come.
