Dear Canton Families,

The start of school sparks a sense of joy and an energizing moment for a community. While this is a very different start to the school year, we are nevertheless excited to begin. We are deeply appreciative of your earlier questions and sharing your perspectives as we prepare for our opening date of September 16. Many staff members have worked throughout the summer and engaged in professional development to provide the best learning experiences for your children, and they cannot wait to meet their students to begin building community and caring relationships.

For all members of our school community, this has been a challenging summer to navigate the many different considerations and details of the reopening plan. It has been a comprehensive process, and it has required difficult decisions for families and school staff. Our students and our core values have been at the heart of the planning. We are thankful to have such engaged and supportive families and educators in this community.

I want to share some details from the August 27 Canton School Committee meeting. The School Committee voted 5-0 to enter the 2020-2021 school year with a phased-in approach with the following timelines. All students will start on September 16 with Remote Learning 2.0 and then transition to the Hybrid Model on September 29. Students who are engaging in the Remote Learning Pathway will start on September 16 and will remain remote for the entire year. Click here for a link to the recording of the Aug. 27 School Committee.

Staff will be engaged in professional development and preparation through the first two weeks of September as we approach the start of school. In addition, the principals will be sending you communications that outline specific details around class assignments, schedules and supplies.

We are looking forward to the start of school on September 16. We will continue to navigate this journey with a clear focus on the students of the Canton Public Schools.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jennifer Fischer-Mueller
Superintendent
