Dear Parents, Guardians and Caregivers:

We are hoping this letter finds you and your family doing well during this period of school closure and global pandemic. We are writing to you today to share a letter and a resource toolbox from the Associate Commissioner of Education, Russell Johnston, at the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Translated versions of the letter and resource toolbox are posted on our website.  In this letter, you will find information about Remote Learning as it pertains to the students with Special Education learning needs and the accommodations provided to students with 504 plans.

Our special education staff has begun writing Individualized Remote Learning Plans (IRLPs) for our students on IEPs and our Team Chairs will be reaching out to share these plans with you. As Russell Johnston writes in his letter, these plans are not in place of the IEP. They are based on your child’s IEP and are written to provide you with a sense of what we are able to do to support your child’s learning while school is closed and teachers are relying on Remote Learning as a means of instructing students at home.

In addition to Remote Learning Plans, Russell Johnston has told us that we can hold remote IEP meetings. If you would like to meet with your child’s team, we will work with you to gather the team. If you prefer to extend the dates on your child’s IEP in order to hold a Team meeting when schools are open, we will amend the IEP to reflect your wishes. Our Team Chairs will be contacting you to discuss these options as well.
