2nd Grade Presidents Project

Research Project Directions:  Please determine which president you would like to research. There are 45 presidents to choose from, be selective and chose a president that motivates you!  I choose _______________________  to research! 

 

This project coincides with our History/Writing curriculum and is loads of fun!  We will begin gathering information at school today! This project will be completed at home and at school.  The Presidents project must be completed and turned in by Thursday, February 28th.  I recommend you get started right away and if you have any questions I am always here to help!

Project Outline

Timeline – Worth 15 points!

Students are expected to create a timeline that includes at least 5 major events with two illustrations.  These timelines can be created on the computer or hand written/drawn.  Final copy must be included on poster.

 

Focus on Words – Worth 15 points!

Students must gather unfamiliar words.  Then, look up the words in a dictionary and write the definition.  There must be at least 3 words on your list. Final copy must be included on poster.

 

Summary – Worth 50 points!

Students must write/type a summary of the president’s life.  The summary must include major findings, family life, education, fun facts, and events.  It is a minimum of six sentences. Final copy must be included on poster.

 

Script – Worth 10 points!

Students must write a script in first person.  The script must focus on main events and important facts.  It must be engaging and to the point.  Students will need to have their scripts memorized by Wednesday, April 11th.  We will practice public speaking in preparation for the “Wax Museum”.  It should be 2-3 sentences in length.

 

Poster: Worth 10 points!

Each student must have a small tri-fold poster board to display their entire project.  The poster is due to school by Thursday, February 28th completed.  Please be creative!  The poster board must be organized. It must include vocabulary terms, timeline, summary, and illustrations or computer generated images.  Poster must have students name and topic clearly displayed.

 

Additional Items:

Students are expected to dress in character.  All props are due to school by  Thursday, February 28th.  The students must be able to get in and out of their own costumes/character independently.  We will have a rehearsal on Thursday, February 28th in preparation for the “Wax Museum”.

 

Show Time: Parents Invitation!!!!

Parents are welcomed to visit Ms. Walsh’s Second Grade Wax Museum on Friday, March 1st at 2:40 p.m. The Wax Museum is an interactive show and last only 10 minutes.  Please arrive on time! Siblings are welcome to join in the fun!  The show concludes with a special treat packed from home! 

 

Parents Homework: “Party in a Bag!” (Due March 1st)

Please pack in a separate bag with an extra special snack for your child to enjoy after the presentation. For example, something salty or sweet, a drink, and a note from you!
