Welcome To Room 97!
Dear Families,
Welcome to first grade, one of the most incredible years your child will have in his/her school career! First grade is a whole new beginning, full of changes – new friends, new teachers, and new classrooms. So much happens in first grade. We look forward to an exciting and fun filled year of learning and growth.
Open House
There will be an open house scheduled for first graders. The open house is scheduled for Tuesday, August 27th at 5pm. This will give your child the chance to see the classroom location. Enclosed is a form letting us know how your child will be dismissed each day, the person responsible for picking your child up, and/or what bus they will take home. Each day, we will escort the walkers out the K lobby doors. For safety reasons, we will not dismiss your child until contact has been made with the appropriate pick up person. On days there is a change in the dismissal routine, please send a note that morning to inform his/her teacher of the change. The bus schedule can be found in the local paper in late August.
First Day
Wednesday, August 28th is our first day of school. The first grade students will enter through the kindergarten lobby doors. They will turn and give a big smile and wave goodbye to you. Please try to make goodbyes brief, as it is best for the children. They will proceed to the first grade wing where they will assemble by their classroom under their cubby. Teachers will be available to help direct them to that location.
There are a few items that your child should bring to school on the first day:
Backpack
1 clean, old sock (this will be used as an eraser for individual white boards)
Lunch & Snack
On each full day of school, your child will need to bring a snack, a water bottle, lunch from home or will order school lunch.
Foster Independence
This is the summer to foster more independence and a sense of responsibility by helping your child become organized and ready to meet responsibilities at school. Please have them practice picking up after themselves, placing toys back in the proper basket/bin, and following directions after only being told once. This will help your child in their transition to first grade where the expectations are higher.
Supplies
If you have not previously ordered your first grade supplies from CAPT, your child will need the following supplies the first day of school:
8 black fine tip expo markers
4 glue sticks
1 twelve pack of #2 sharpened pencils
1 box of 16 crayons
Pencil case (10x6 zipper case usually works best to fit in the desk)
7 2-pocket folders (blue, red, green, yellow, orange, white, purple)
1 wide ruled spiral bound notebook
Suggested: pair of headphones (not earbuds)
Field Trip/ Volunteering
Please be aware that all school based activities require a Canton Public Schools CORI form as well as fingerprints. It can be a lengthy process. If you would like to possibly be a chaperone on a field trip for your child’s class, please DO NOT wait to get your fingerprints done and fill out the CORI form. Please refer to the Canton Public Schools website for more information.
Wish List
Donations of the following classroom items are always welcomed throughout the year: tissues, sandwich, snack, and gallon size Ziploc bags, paper towels, and baby wipes/wet ones/Clorox wipes. One donation of anything, if possible, is plenty and greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your support. We look forward to having a wonderful year with your children. If your child has Mrs. Gaspa, you can preview her website that is attached to the Luce webpage. Click on About, Meet our Staff and then click on Mrs. Gaspa's name. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please contact your child’s teacher. We look forward to working with your child on a daily basis. Enjoy the summer!
