Destruction of Records
All special education records of students who graduated, withdrew, or transferred from the Canton Public Schools during the 2018-2019 school year will be destroyed effective October 23, 2026.
The student’s transcript will be retained by the District for sixty (60) years.
Per the Massachusetts Student Record Regulations, 603 CMR 23.06, please notify the Canton Public Schools Student Services Department, 960 Washington Street, Canton, MA 02021, in writing prior to October 16, 2026 if you will pick up the records. No records will be mailed or electronically sent. Photo identification is required at pickup.
An eligible student (14 years of age or older, or who has entered the ninth grade) or a parent/guardian may obtain the records. If the student is 18 or older, the student controls the record. A parent/guardian of an adult student may pick up the records after the Student Services Department receives written authorization from the student. A parent retains the right to inspect the student record under M.G.L. c. 71, § 34E.
