Galvin Middle School

Summer Reading Program

For Students Entering Grades 6, 7, & 8 in September, 2008

When I look back, I am so impressed again with the life-giving power of literature.  If I were a young person today, trying to gain a sense of myself in the world, I would do that again by reading, just as I did when I was young.”     ~  Maya Angelou

Galvin Middle School - Summer Reading Program

Dear Students and Parents,

The Galvin Middle School believes that learning is a year-round endeavor and that summer vacation presents unique opportunities for increased learning.  Students are encouraged to take advantage of those opportunities to extend their literacy skills.

To become a summer reader, students are required to read four books.  Students who read eight or more books will become expert summer readers.  All students who participate will be recognized with a summer reading breakfast in the fall and will receive certificates of participation.

Our goal is for 100% participation of the entering sixth grade class.  Information for the Galvin Summer Reading program can also be found on the school’s website www.cantonma.org/galvin/.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Happy reading!
