Levels		Artwork
Exemplary	1	Craftsmanship/Skill/Material Mastery The project's directions are followed with outcome artwork that is presented with demonstrated skill and care. The work was patiently, respectfully done as as good as hard work could make it with a professional-looking presentation.
	2	Composition/Design - The artist student's intent is evident in the finished product, the work shows exceptional use of the basic art elements and principles and the design is very pleasing to the eye and holds the viewer's attention.
	3	Creativity/Originality/Risk Taking - The student explored several choices before selecting one, generating many ideas, tried unusual combinations or changes on several ideass.  Exellent problem solving skills.  Student was willing to take risks to try something new and discovered innovative solutions.
	4	Attitude/Care/Effort/Perseverance Student stayed on task. The work is very appropriate for the project, it was completed with exceptional care, the student worked hard to finish with an attitude that was helpful and positive.  When finished, the student became involved and focused on his/her preferred activity/project. Student was helpful to the teacher by helping his/her classmates when asked.
	5	Mastery of Materials - The work show a breadth of the material's capabilities.  The student used the materials to the fullest and made excellent choices.
Meeting the	1	Craftsmanship/Skill/Material Mastery The project's directions are followed with artwork that is presented with good skill and care. With a little more effort, the work could have been outstanding. Presentation neat.
Standard	2	Composition/Design - The art student's intent is evident in the finished product, the work shows good use of the basic art elements and principles and the design is good.
	3	Creativity/Originality/Risk Taking - The student tried a few ideas before selecting one with very good results.  Student was willing to take risks to try something new and remained open-minded.
	4	Attitude/Care/Effort/Perseverance The student stayed on task.  The work is very appropriate for the project, it was completed with care, the student worked well with a good attitude during the project. When finished, the student focused on his/her preferred activity/project.
	5	Mastery of Materials - The work exhibits use of materials, the student applied his/her new knowledge of the materials as covered in the lesson.
Emerging	1	Craftsmanship/Skill/Material Mastery Most of the project's directions are followed with work that is presented with some care. The student showed average craftsmanship, adequate, but not as good as it could have been.  Presentation needs some improvement (crooked, off-center or messy)
	2	Composition/Design - The art student's intent is not clear in the finished product, the work shows some  use of the basic art elements and principles and the design is acceptable.
	3	Creativity/Originality/Risk Taking - The student tried an idea, however it lacked originality and personal expression.  Student exhibited reluctance to experiment.
	4	Attitude/Care/Effort/Perseverance The student stayed on task with a prompt.The work is the bare minimum for the project assigned, it was completed, the student worked adequately with a fair attitude during the project. When finished, the student started to work on his/her preferred activity.
	5	Mastery of Materials - The work exhibits some use of material's capabilities, the student applied some of his/her new knowledge of the materials acquired in the lesson.
Attempting	1	Craftsmanship/Skill/Material Mastery Not all of project directions are followed with work that shows some care, yet looks unfinished. The presentation is not careful (i.e., crooked, dog-earred, messy, wrinkled).
	2	Composition/Design - The art student's intent is not evident in the finished product, the work shows an inadequate understanding of the basic art elements and principles.
	3	Creativity/Originality/Risk Taking - The student gave no evidence of trying anything unusal.  Student exhibited resistance to trying out ideas.
	4	Attitude/Care/Effort/Perseverance Student stayed on task and needed a few prompts. The work barely meets project requirements.  The student had a fair to poor attitude during the project.  The student did the minimal amount. Student missed work and didn't make it up and did not ask for help.
	5	Mastery of Materials - The work exhibits minor use of materials, the student has not practiced using materials therefore he/she doesn't know how  well enough for a consistent, well-made artwork.
Insignificant	1	Little or no effort has been made in any of the above area to complete the work.
