Lesson on Propaganda Propaganda- public display having the purpose or the effect of furthering or hindering a cause or idea Students analyze this WWI painting which was taken from the National Archives and Records Administration. Students analyze the painting by answering some very straight forward questions and then draw conclusion about what it might have been used for. Could it have been used as propaganda and if so, for what? It is used as a perfect tie-in between our study of War and that of African-American civil rights. Why don't you take a shot of analyzing it right now! Who are the subjects in the pictures above the mantle? Do any of them represent anything? Who are the people and what can we learn about them by looking at their dress? What is the mood of the picture? Do you think this is what life was like for most African- Americans in the 1910s? How might this have been used as propaganda?
