The name of my animal that I am doing is called the skunk. The skunk is a vertebrate mammal and I think it is a rather interesting animal. Like other animals the skunk does not scratch or bite you instead it sprays you. The skunk’s color is black and white with black eyes, which are good for the dark. The hooded skunk has a tail up to 15 inches long and also vary hairy. The skunk is not endangered and you might find some close to fresh water, in the woods or on mountains.

The skunk lives in the U.S and parts of Canada some skunks live in the desert. Skunks need living things like all different kinds of insects and bugs. The things that are not living that they need are logs, dirt, grass and rocks. The bugs and insects are fore the skunk to eat. The logs, dirt, grass and rocks are so it can build its den to live in. Also baby skunks make homes on sea level, made out of grass and hay. Special features that the skunk has to adapt to the to the environment are it’s two layers of fur one of them is for the cold weather and the other layer is for the rain and snow.

A skunk has 34 razor sharp teeth that it uses for eating skunks eat about all types of bugs and insects. To find the insects and bugs the skunk would use its nose. If there is an insect or bug under the ground the skunk will use its claws to dig it up. The skunk interacts with people by warning them before spraying the skunk warns animals by going up on its hind legs. If you get even closer than the skunk will spray you. Also the skunk does not like to spray people whenever they see them.

All skunks are born alive and hardly any hair also they are born deaf and blind. Skunks care for there young and stay with them in the den. At about 7 to 8 weeks old the skunk will go off and live on sea level in a log or something like that. Some skunks stay with there mother until the following spring.

I found many interesting facts about the skunk but I narrowed it down to two facts. The first interesting fact is that the scientific name for the striped skunk is mephitis mephitis that is Latin for terrible, terrible smell. My second funny and interesting fact about the skunk is that the skunk does not only walk around, but it can also swim in the water skunks are fine swimmers and often do the doggy paddle across ponds and small rivers. I hope you learned a lot about the skunk because I did.
