I chose the Painted Turtle because I never heard of it before. The Painted Turtle is a reptile. Painted turtles can grow to be about seven inches big. Their shells have very happy colors like green, red, black and yellow.
Painted Turtles come out of an egg. After they come out of an egg they need to go to the nearest pond. They do this because if they don’t then they will probably get caught and eaten by an enemy. When the painted turtle is a baby it is no bigger than a nickel. When painted turtle is a baby they have a small funny looking tail. When they are a baby they have a soft shell. As they get older their shell hardens.
After painted turtles are born they are born with a little sac on their stomach full of food for them to eat until they are old enough to hunt for their own food. When they are hunting for their own food they are usually hunt for water bugs, snail eggs or water plants. When a painted turtle is hunting for a water bug the turtle crepes up from underwater and then goes to the surface to eat the water bug. Snail eggs are mostly found under a water plant. So the painted turtle needs to get the eggs from under the plant.
The painted turtle have some special features. Painted turtles have webbed feet so they can swim quickly away from an enemy or so they can swim quickly toward their prey. Painted Turtles also have a hard shell as a special feature. This is so its enemy can’t eat them. Some of the painted turtle’s enemies are birds and big fish.
The painted turtle can be found statewide in Massachusetts and from the northern part of Mexico to the southern part of Canada and everywhere in between. One interesting fact that I learned is that people can keep painted turtles as pets.
I hope you learned a lot of interesting facts. So the next time you see a painted turtle you can remember all of the many facts about a painted turtle.
