Health Screening - Height, Weight and Body Mass Index

The Canton Public Schools are participating in the Massachusetts state mandated body composition screenings this year. All children in grades PreK-12 have been weighed and measured, and their BMIs have been calculated. BMI (body mass index) is a weight for stature index that can be used to help determine whether the student is within a normal growth pattern. Because of the serious health issues associated with being overweight or underweight (including diabetes, heart disease and eating disorders), we will be sending letters to the parents of students whose BMI’s fall outside of the normal range for their ages. Meanwhile, if you have any concerns about this information, please feel free to contact your school nurse.
