Students are required to read four books to become a Summer Reader.
Students who read eight books may become an Expert Summer Reader. Books
four through eight must be from the suggested lists in the Language Arts Frameworks.
Writing responses are selected from the list below and each choice can be used once.
Responses can be done in any order. The writing should be neat and represent the student's
best effort.
Response List
Draw a time line to illustrate the events in the story.
Write a diary entry of one of the characters in the story, using first person.
Write a letter to the author telling why you liked the book, your favorite part, and what
you would have done with the plot.
Write a newspaper article based on an incident from the book.
Report on any new, interesting, or challenging ideas you gained through reading the book.
Letter the title of the book vertically; then write a brief phrase applicable to the book
for each letter.
Tell what kind of people should read this book. Who shouldn't?
Make a list of five to ten significant questions about this book and then answer the
questions.
