Library Contract
NANCY J. MULRY LIBRARY MEDIA CENTER
MRS. MURPHY, LIBRARIAN
STUDENT CONTRACT 1998/1999
To ensure a successful school experience each one of us has the responsibility to respect the rights of others and to respect school property. I want to highlight the rules pertaining to the school library detailed in the Galvin Middle School Reminder Binder. The purpose of this contract is to provide students from the start with an understanding of library rules and procedures. They should be made aware of the responsibilities assumed by library use. Students should know that library access is a privilege that is earned, and that library use will help them to succeed to their highest potential.
Please read the following and sign below.
Since ancient times libraries have been repositories of knowledge and
places of learning. Any student in the library should be respectful of this purpose and
history. Students engaged in research and study within the library will be allowed to move
around and communicate with each other within reasonable limits. Undisciplined and
unacceptable behaviors such as those listed in the "Reminder Binder" will cause
a student to lose library privileges.
2. No food, drink or gum is allowed in the
library. These substances can permanently
damage and ruin library
materials and furniture.
3. All library materials should be handled with the respect and care given all school property. Students are responsible for their condition. Any library book or other item that is so badly damaged that it can not recirculate, will be considered lost and paid for accordingly.
Whether signing a library book card or checking out an item on the computer, the student is agreeing by contract to return the book or item in the same condition under which he or she took it out. The circulation time limit is three weeks or the project due date. Renewals are available. At present there are no late fees. Library materials should be returned promptly as another student may be waiting for the item. Students will be charged the replacement cost of lost books. Failure to pay replacement charges will result in the loss of library privileges.
Unlimited reading and research is allowed and encouraged in the school library media center.
