Future Problem Solvers and Community Problem Solvers

What is FPS/CmPS? - Our History

From May 27-May 31st 37 Canton students (with coaches and chapterones) traveled to Michigan State University in E. Lansing, MI for the 35th annual International Conference of Future Problem Solving. Representatives from the several branches of the program met to test their skills against those from 40 other U.S. states, Australia, Korea, Great Britain, New Zealand, the Peoples Republic of China, Singapore, and the South Autstralian State.

On Sunday morning all the competitors gathered in the Jenison Field House to hear the results of their efforts. Canton's Massachusetts State champsionship teams received the following awards:
7-8th Grade Community Problem Solving team - F.A.S.T. - Childhood Allergy Awareness (Mrs. Hanscom's team) - FIRST PLACE in Category in Middle Division
6th Grade Community Problem Solving Team - WeCanHelp - Automating the Canon Food Pantry - (Coaches: Mrs. Winchell, Mr.Bonica, Mrs. Halloran) THIRD PLACE in Category in Junior Division
Robert Bronstein - Part of FIRST PLACE Alternate Team in Booklet competition (FPS) on the topic of Pandemics
Mrs. Harris - Part of THIRD PLACE Adult Team (made up of coachs from throughout the world).

Although they didn't place, the 7th grade FPS Team (Mrs. Bronstein's team) and Dasol Lee (the 4th grader who won the State Championship in the Individual Competition) , and Cuinn Hanscom (Senior FPS alternate) also made us very proud.

The children have worked diligently since September to win the right to be at the competition and were fine representatives of Massachusetts and Canton! It was an honor and pleasure to be with them.
Thank you to all the incredibly hard-working parent volunteer coaches and the parents who did an outstanding job raising the funds to send the children to this event.

Thanks,
Marilyn Harris
