High school education has changed dramatically over the last
50 years. The curriculum has diversified to include more disciplines
and has been designed to reach students with a greater variety
of learning needs. The Massachusetts Education Frameworks
demand a higher level of mastery by all students. Curricular
and technological innovations provide exciting opportunity
for interactive approaches to teaching, learning and evaluation.
Continued links between our high school and community provide
real-life experiences for students and emphasize life-long
learning for all our citizens.
Our community has attempted to keep pace with these developments.
Classrooms have been combined or converted to expand the library,
to support health and special education, and to facilitate
community activities. However, it is clear that our high school
facilities are outdated and will not support the curriculum
needs of the future.
We envision a state-of-the-art high school that will serve
as a welcoming, accessible, cohesive, flexible, comprehensive
and secure center of year-round, life-long learning
for the entire Canton community. As a center for community
education, it will promote formal and informal training for
a wide variety of citizen activities, complementing the Public
Library. Our future high school will continue to attract strong
leaders and teachers to provide the best possible learning
environment for students and citizens.
Education has changed and will change even more to set the
pace for acquiring skills for living in this new century.
We are eager to work with everyone in Canton to develop a
high school renovation plan that best serves our entire community's
future need |
