This is the first year of American Poetry at Canton High School.  It's a blend of reading poetry by contemporary, multicultural, American poets and writing poetry that explores the individual voices of all members of the class.  Students have been doing both wonderfully, and we've decided to take on a big project for the months of November and December.

Currently my students are creating a poetry book for my sister Denise Page’s fourth grade class in Roseburg, Oregon.  (You can check out info. about Roseburg at http://www.el.com/to/roseburg/.)  The book will consist of poetry and illustrations created specifically for the

students in Oregon.  Once the book is completed, it will be printed and mailed to Oregon for the fourth grade class to read and enjoy.

This website has been created to highlight the hard work of my poetry class, so please stop by often.  Right now we're in the early stages. What you can see are class pictures and the handout that my sister's class was given to help my students create poetry based on the lives

of the individual students.  Soon you'll be able to see drafts of poems that are being created, new photos of the class in action, and maybe even a video or two.
