Sectional
Champions...
The never-quit Bulldog
Boys Hockey team found themselves down 2-0 with just one
period to go in Sunday's Sectional Final vs. top-seeded
Nauset before storming back and forcing OT, and finally
winning in a shootout. Kevin Rooney struck first for
the 'dogs when he beat the Nauset goalie three minutes into
the final period. The score remained 2-1 Nauset, until coach
Brian Shuman pulled his goalie with 35 seconds left,
and freshman Pat Ward skated from the bench to the
goal, found the puck, and scored the game-tying goal forcing
overtime. Despite huge Bulldog pressure, the teams skated to
a scoreless OT, forcing a shootout to decide the Champion.
Kevin Rooney and Frank Eckler each scored for the
'dogs, and Bulldog goaltender, Jonathan Donaruma stopped
four of the five shots he faced, thus punching CHS's ticket
to the State Final.
Goals by Meghan Lennon
and Stephanie Rizzitano weren't enough to lift the
Girls Hockey team to a tournament victory on Thursday
night at Brockton, as the Bulldogs fell to Winchester, 6-2.
Congratulations to the girls on a great season and a league
championship.
Matt Sidney (High
Jump), Amarachi, Njoku (shot put), and Samantha
Smith (55 meter dash) all qualified for the New England
Indoor Track meet this Friday, with great performances
at the State Meet this past weekend. Sidney jumped 6'4",
Njoku threw 38'4", and Smith posted a 7.30.
