Bulldogs earn first round shutout win over Randolph

Drew Blake may have missed more than half of the season with an injury, but he certainly made up for lost time in the 'dogs' first round tourney matchup with Randolph as he scored 3 of the first 5 goals in a 7-0 win. Goals by Scott Levy, Chris Murray, Michael Denehy and Damian Kozak rounded out the score sheet.
Colby Gavigan had to make one big save to preserve his 13th shutout of the season. The entire team played great in the win.
The team will face a tough Westwood squad in the Quarter-Final round at home on Wednesday at 7:15.

Game Recaps

Nov. 1st- Hock Classic Cup- Canton 2, Franklin 0
The 'dogs bounced back from their only regular season loss in the past two seasons with a convincing 2-0 victory over Franklin in the 2011 Hockomock Classic Cup matchup Tuesday night. The game featured the two first place teams from the Hock's two divisions- the Davenport and Kelley-Rex.
The 'dogs were out for a bit of revenge, having drew with the Panthers the first time they played, after having a 2-0 lead. The 2-0 lead would not be relinquished in the Cup game! Scott Levy scored both Bulldog goals. Colby Gavigan made three saves in his 12th shutout of the season. Matt Malloyand Chris Murray were strong in midfield while Dave Feeney was a standout in the back.
The win wraps up a final regular season record of 10-1-6. It also continues an unbeaten streak in Hockomock League contests dating back more than two and a half seasons. Since losing at Oliver Ames on September 21, 2009, the Bulldogs have won 29 games and tied 10.

October 26th- Canton 1, Silver Lake 3
Less than 24 hours after wrapping up their 4th consecutive league title, the Bulldogs had to take the field against a high quality Silver Lake squad on the road. Despite having a great deal of the possession and territory on the night, the Bulldogs couldn't finish their chances and surrendered 3 goals to the Lakers, falling 3-1.
Scott Levy's goal with 7 minutes remaining was too little too late for the previously unbeaten Bulldogs.

October 25th- Canton 4, Stoughton
The members of the class of 2012 got things rolling early as the 11 seniors on the roster started Tuesday night's game and earned an early goal. Cam Huber's header- which flicked passed the Stoughton goalkeeper into the side netting put the 'dogs up just minutes into the game. The score remained 1-0 until the 2nd half when the Bulldog offense got going. 2nd half goals were scored by Scott Levy, Matt Lennon and Eric Wong.
Colby Gavigan was solid in goal, earning his 11th shutout of the season- the team's 4th in a row.

October 16th- Canton 2, Foxboro 0
After suffering two consecutive road draws, the Bulldogs came storming back at home Sunday night, downing Foxboro, 2-0.
Despite playing dominating soccer in the first half, the 'dogs could not manage to find the back of the Warrior goal. Foxboro hung tough to hold onto a 0-0 halftime score. The 'dogs came out strong in the 2nd frame. Matt Lennon's head ball in the box found the back of the Warrior net to put the home side up 1-0 early in the 2nd. Then, with about 15 minutes remaining,Jimmy Kelly had a poor Foxboro clearance land on his foot about 22 yards out and he hit a pill past the Warrior keeper to the far post, side netting.
Colby Gavigan and his back four of David Feeney, Andrew Vinciguerra, Matt Kelly and Jimmy Kelly, were brilliant on the day- earning the team's 9th shutout of the season.

October 11th- Canton 0, Sharon 0
Despite dominating the 2nd half of play, the Bulldogs could not muster a goal at Sharon on Tuesday, and had to settle for yet another draw- 0-0.
Colby Gavigan earned his 8th shutout of the season.

October 6th- Canton 2, Franklin 2
wo brilliant goals by Scott Levy early in the second half were not enough to lift the Bulldogs past the Franklin Panthers on Thursday afternoon as the 'dogs surrendered two late goals and had to settle for the 2-2 tie.
Levy's first goal was a quality header off a Chris Murray throw in while his second was a rocket of a shot past the Panther keeper from a tough angle.
The 'dogs will try to get back to winning ways as they face off against the Sharon Eagles at Sharon on Tuesday.

October 3rd- Canton 1, Attleboro 0
Michael Denehy
finished off a great pass from Chris Murray in the first minute of the 2nd half of Monday's Hockomock clash at Attleboro, earning the 1-0 victory.
The Bulldogs saw Attleboro control much of the midfield, but the Bulldog back four and forwards implemented a great counter-attacking game plan culminating in Denehy's tally.
The back line of Matt Lennon, Jimmy Kelly, Andrew Vinciguerra and David Feeney were flawless on the day, combining with goalkeeper Colby Gavigan on the shutout- the 6th of the season. The Bulldogs have not surrendered a goal in the  last 6 1/2 hours of play.

October 1st- Canton 4, Westport 0
Colby Gavigan
and Yanni Folkes combined for a shutout win in goal for the Bulldogs on Saturday night, 4-0 over visiting Westport.
The 'dogs got off to a good start in the first-ever meeting between CHS and the Wildcats- scoring 4 goals in the first half. Matt Kelly got the scoring started when he took a loose ball in the box and beat the Wildcat keeper.Scott Levy's perfect service off a direct kick was finished off in high-level fashion by Chris Murray just minutes later. Michael Denehy, who knocked on the door all night, found the back of the net next. Murray then hit a class strike on a direct free kick which beat the Westport keeper.
The second half featured great play by the freshmen midfield combination ofLiam Collins, Bart O'Brien and Damian Kozak.
The 'dogs face their toughest week of the season this week as they travel to Attleboro and Franklin, the top two teams in the Hockomock Kelley-Rex Division. The green and white will be bringing a pretty impressive streak with them-
they have not surrendered a goal in more than 5 hours.

September 27th- Canton 4, Stoughton 0
Eric Wong, Scott Levy, Chris Murray
and Matt Malloy each scored first half goals in Tuesday's 4-0 win at Stoughton
Wong's goal came on a spot-on pass by Michael Denehy- Wong took control of the ball off his chest and smashed a volley past the Black Knight keeper.
Andrew Vinciguerra and Josh Klein were two standouts in the shutout effort- Colby Gavigan's 5th of the season.
The team hosts Westport on Saturday night at 7:00.

September 24th-Canton 2, OA 0
Second half goals by Chris Murray and Matt Malloy led the Bulldogs to a 2-0 win over visiting Oliver Ames Saturday night. The Tigers came into the game tied with the Bulldog for first place in the Davenport Division of the Hockomock League.
The game was very even during the first half as the Tigers gave the Bulldogs a great challenge. But early in the 2nd half, the 'dogs took over, scoring two quick ones and dominating possession and territory.
Colby Gavigan earned his 4th shutout of the season.
