Nov. 1st- Hock Classic Cup- Canton 2, Franklin 0
The 'dogs bounced back from their only regular season loss in the
past two seasons with a convincing 2-0 victory over Franklin in
the 2011 Hockomock
Classic Cup matchup
Tuesday night. The game featured the two first place teams from
the Hock's two divisions- the Davenport and Kelley-Rex.
The 'dogs were out for a bit of revenge, having drew with the
Panthers the first time they played, after having a 2-0 lead. The
2-0 lead would not be relinquished in the Cup game! Scott
Levy scored both
Bulldog goals. Colby
Gavigan made three
saves in his 12th shutout of the season. Matt
Malloyand Chris Murray were strong in midfield while Dave
Feeney was a
standout in the back.
The win wraps up a final regular season record of 10-1-6. It also
continues an unbeaten streak in Hockomock League contests
dating back more than two and a half seasons. Since
losing at Oliver Ames on September 21, 2009, the Bulldogs have won
29 games and tied 10.
October 26th- Canton 1, Silver Lake 3
Less than 24 hours after wrapping up their 4th consecutive league
title, the Bulldogs had to take the field against a high quality
Silver Lake squad on the road. Despite having a great deal of the
possession and territory on the night, the Bulldogs couldn't
finish their chances and surrendered 3 goals to the Lakers,
falling 3-1.
Scott Levy's goal
with 7 minutes remaining was too little too late for the
previously unbeaten Bulldogs.
October 25th- Canton 4, Stoughton
The members of the class of 2012 got things rolling early as the
11 seniors on the roster started Tuesday night's game and earned
an early goal. Cam
Huber's header-
which flicked passed the Stoughton goalkeeper into the side
netting put the 'dogs up just minutes into the game. The score
remained 1-0 until the 2nd half when the Bulldog offense got
going. 2nd half goals were scored by Scott
Levy, Matt Lennon and Eric
Wong.
Colby Gavigan was
solid in goal, earning his 11th shutout of the season- the team's
4th in a row.
October 16th- Canton 2,
Foxboro 0
After suffering two consecutive road draws, the
Bulldogs came storming back at home Sunday night, downing Foxboro,
2-0.
Despite playing dominating soccer in the first half, the 'dogs
could not manage to find the back of the Warrior goal. Foxboro
hung tough to hold onto a 0-0 halftime score. The 'dogs came out
strong in the 2nd frame. Matt
Lennon's head ball
in the box found the back of the Warrior net to put the home side
up 1-0 early in the 2nd. Then, with about 15 minutes remaining,Jimmy
Kelly had a poor
Foxboro clearance land on his foot about 22 yards out and he hit a
pill past the Warrior keeper to the far post, side netting.
Colby Gavigan and
his back four of David
Feeney, Andrew Vinciguerra, Matt Kelly and Jimmy
Kelly, were
brilliant on the day- earning the team's 9th shutout of the
season.
October 11th- Canton 0,
Sharon 0
Despite dominating the 2nd half of play, the
Bulldogs could not muster a goal at Sharon on Tuesday, and had to
settle for yet another draw- 0-0.
Colby Gavigan earned
his 8th shutout of the season.
October 6th- Canton 2,
Franklin 2
wo brilliant goals by Scott
Levy early in the
second half were not enough to lift the Bulldogs past the Franklin
Panthers on Thursday afternoon as the 'dogs surrendered two late
goals and had to settle for the 2-2 tie.
Levy's first goal was a quality header off a Chris
Murray throw in
while his second was a rocket of a shot past the Panther keeper
from a tough angle.
The 'dogs will try to get back to winning ways as they face off
against the Sharon Eagles at Sharon on Tuesday.
October 3rd-
Canton 1, Attleboro 0
Michael
Denehy finished off a great pass from Chris Murray in
the first minute of the 2nd half of Monday's Hockomock clash at
Attleboro, earning the 1-0 victory.
The Bulldogs saw Attleboro control much of the midfield, but the
Bulldog back four and forwards implemented a great
counter-attacking game plan culminating in Denehy's tally.
The back line of Matt Lennon, Jimmy Kelly, Andrew Vinciguerra
and David Feeney were flawless on the day, combining with
goalkeeper Colby Gavigan on the shutout- the 6th of the
season. The Bulldogs have not surrendered a goal in the last
6 1/2 hours of play.
October 1st- Canton 4, Westport 0
Colby Gavigan and Yanni
Folkes combined for
a shutout win in goal for the Bulldogs on Saturday night, 4-0 over
visiting Westport.
The 'dogs got off to a good start in the first-ever meeting
between CHS and the Wildcats- scoring 4 goals in the first half. Matt
Kelly got the
scoring started when he took a loose ball in the box and beat the
Wildcat keeper.Scott Levy's perfect
service off a direct kick was finished off in high-level fashion
by Chris Murray just
minutes later. Michael
Denehy, who knocked on the door all night, found the back of
the net next. Murray then
hit a class strike on a direct free kick which beat the Westport
keeper.
The second half featured great play by the freshmen midfield
combination ofLiam Collins, Bart O'Brien and Damian
Kozak.
The 'dogs face their toughest week of the season this week as they
travel to Attleboro and Franklin, the top two teams in the
Hockomock Kelley-Rex Division. The green and white will be
bringing a pretty impressive streak with them- they
have not surrendered a goal in more than 5 hours.
September
27th- Canton 4, Stoughton 0
Eric
Wong, Scott Levy, Chris Murray and Matt Malloy each
scored first half goals in Tuesday's 4-0 win at Stoughton
Wong's goal came on a spot-on pass by Michael Denehy- Wong
took control of the ball off his chest and smashed a volley past
the Black Knight keeper.
Andrew Vinciguerra and Josh Klein were two standouts
in the shutout effort- Colby Gavigan's 5th of the season.
The team hosts Westport on Saturday night at 7:00.
September
24th-Canton 2, OA 0
Second half goals by
Chris Murray and Matt Malloy led the Bulldogs to a 2-0
win over visiting Oliver Ames Saturday night. The Tigers came into
the game tied with the Bulldog for first place in the Davenport
Division of the Hockomock League.
The game was very even during the first half as the Tigers gave
the Bulldogs a great challenge. But early in the 2nd half, the
'dogs took over, scoring two quick ones and dominating possession
and territory.
Colby Gavigan earned his 4th shutout of the season.
